The Kannur University Union is an elected organizational body of the students studying in the affiliated Colleges and teaching departments of Kanuur University. This body has got a two layered structure. Basic portion is the College/Campus Unions where the students of the respective College and Campus will elect their own College/Campus Unions. The University Union councilors thus elected from the College/Campus will from the University Union General Council. This General Council will elect, from among themselves, the office Bearers of the University Union. The objectives of the University Union is to promote, social and cultural and corporate lives of the students of the University and to train them in the duties and rights of citizenship, irrespective of Caste, Creeds, Religion and Economic status. The Office of the University Union consists of the Chairman, two Vice Chairman,(of which one should be a Lady) the Secretary, the Joint Secretary and three executive members one each representing Kasaragod, Kannur and Wayanad Districts. Honorable Vice Chancellor in the patron of the Union and the Director of Student Services being the Honorary Treasurer. The History of the Kannur University Union begins from 1998-99 academic year onwards when Sri.A.N.Shansheer and Sri.M.Anilkumar assumed the office of the Chairman and Secretary of the first University Union respectively. Since them 13 University Unions have assumed the office until 2011-2912 academic year. The responsibility of the Union is to organize programmes encouraging students in various constructive activities which would help to develop the intellectual, cultural and artistic talents of the student community which would essentially lead to the development of their personalities. These activities includes conduct of seminars and workshops on various topics of Academic and non Academic nature, Film Festival, Literary and other residential campes, competitions like Best College Union Competitions and above all the conduct of University Union youth Festival. The University Union youth Festival is the most important event organized by the Union every year. This gives a platform for all the students to present their cultural talents with a competitive spirit in as may as 120 events ranging from story writing to kadhakali. Great personalities like Captian.Lakshmi, Dr.Prabhath patnayak, M.T.Vasudivan Nair, Murali, Sara Joseph, Dr.Sebastian paul, participated in various programmes conducted by the Union over the years. This common platform is really a boost to Student Community.
